THE SOLUTION

With the help of CSP we achieved all these goals by the strategic use of Xenserver virtualisation and utilising CSP's intimate knowledge of HP ProLiant servers, storage and fibre fabrics. The historic benefits of a virtualised solution may have been offset by a significant performance overhead, with fewer users being supported on a virtual server than on a native system. However, with CSP and the solution they provided to Oxford BioMedica we are running our user base on high-performance HP ProLiant servers. The performance enhancement over our ageing servers with our multi-site deployment of newer, faster servers has provided Oxford BioMedica with a feature rich and robust virtualised infrastructure. CSP technical expertise helped us consolidate from 22 individual servers, to just 4. By reducing the physical footprint and power requirements within the Oxford BioMedica data centre, while improving our redundancy, failover and disaster recovery capability.

WHAT THE CUSTOMER SAYS

Very recently Oxford BioMedica invited another company to conduct a rigorous cyber security risk assessment of the IT infrastructure.  The results of the cyber security assessment were very pleasing, it was particularly noted that all key security controls and management systems were well configured and functioned as expected. However, no external assessment would be complete without some form of finding. A potential vulnerability with no immediate critical risk was highlighted to Oxford BioMedica in relation to a wireless network and the connection of personal wireless devices. In consultation with CSP an impressive (and clever) mix of Cisco switches and Draytek Access Points (APs) were subsequently supplied, configured and deployed.  The resulting network segregation has added to our robust protection of our critical systems.
